2019 in Review

2019 was a whirlwind year. It was a year filled with many new adventures, friends and community building, and photoshoots in stunning places. This year, I was honored to photograph over 25 shoots, which exceeded my goal. As someone who works full-time, balancing a creative side business can be tough sometimes. Late nights editing and working 6 to 7 days each week. I’ve learned a lot about myself this year. To be kind and patient with myself, and to not stress deadlines as much. I am very appreciative for the opportunities my clients have given me. Thanks for putting your special memories and trust in me to tell each one your stories.

I wanted to share the organizations that were part of the giving aspect of my business, 5% back to public lands each year. I have enjoyed donating to National Park Foundation, Trailkeepers of Oregon and Pacific Crest Trail Association, however this year, I added more to the list as my small business grows. Each of these organizations serve our community, work hard to drive change, advocate for our lands, provide stewardship and trail maintenance, as well as engage the public in educational opportunities to support our lands.

Over 75% of my creative opportunities take me to our great public lands, so I wanted to grow a business to help give back to these places that we all play in and enjoy together. I want to highlight the wonderful organizations that were part of Anchor and Pine’s 5% back to protect our public lands for 2019.

National Park Foundation: NPF protects America’s special places, connects people to nature and inspires the next generation of park stewards. This foundation helps protect over 400 national parks and preserve 84 million acres of landscapes, ecosystems, and historical sites. It is the official charitable partner of the National Park Service.

Trailkeepers of Oregon: I have had the honor to volunteer with TKO a couple times, once in the Columbia River Gorge and Milo McIver State Park. Look forward to more trail parties. TKO provides trail maintenance and stewardship projects throughout the state of Oregon, and maintain over 100,000 miles of trail each year.

Pacific Crest Trail Association: PCTA’s mission is to keep the the PCT open for generations to come through preservation, protection, partnership, and trail and land management. Their conservation and protection work began back in the 1930’s. Giving back to the PCT Association was my first 5% to public land donation in 2018.

Mt Hood Ski Patrol: With over 300 volunteers, Mt. Hood Ski Patrol is a member-driven organization dedicated to rescue, emergency care and public safety for the Mt. Hood recreational community. They help provide quality rescue and emergency care to alpine and nordic skiers and snowboarders on Mt Hood.

Surfrider: Surfrider is an environmental organization with local chapter that works together to protect and preserve the world's oceans, waves and beaches. They focus on water quality, beach access, beach and surf spot preservation, and sustaining marine and coastal ecosystems. As a fellow surfer and ocean aficionado, love supporting Surfrider’s mission.

Washington Trail Association: WTA’s mission is to mobilize hikers and everyone who loves the outdoors to explore, steward and champion trails and public lands. Since 1966, WTA has created Washington’s largest volunteer trail maintenance program and pushed to reform legislation to help allocate trail funding. I hiked in Washington quite a bit this year, so knew I needed to contribute in some way. Check out my blog posts on the Enchanted Valley and the Enchantments.

Glacier National Park Conservancy: My husband and I took a road trip here and we were mesmerized by the beauty. The stunning landscapes wouldn’t be possible without care of people through the decades. Glacier Conservancy helps maintain over 700 miles of the park’s trail system, grow and develop the future stewards, and support world-class research exploring wildlife and landscapes.
